All interested persons are invited to participate in a “People’s Inauguration” Thursday, Jan. 21, at 12:15 pm on the south side of the courthouse in Jefferson.
The event, which will be mirrored across the nation, will be an opportunity “to renew our spirits and recommit to our core values,” wrote Sikh activist, author and founder of the Revolutionary Love Project Valerie Kaur in the January 2021 Sojourners Magazine.
The local event is organized by retired Methodist minister Dale Hanaman of Rippey.
“People’s Inauguration” attendees will speak an oath modeled after the Presidential Oath of Office. “I do solemnly vow that I will faithfully execute my role in healing and transitioning America, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend truth, dignity, justice and joy for myself and for those around me, and that I will do so in love.”
Attendees are asked to bring canned goods and dry goods to support the Action Resource Center food pantry.
Those who can’t attend are invited to speak the oath aloud wherever they are at that time.
